Garlic cloves (2, crushed)
Fresh chilli (1, deseeded and finely chopped)
Onion (1, finely chopped)
Bell peppers (1 red and 1 green, deseeded and finely chopped)
Tomato puree (1 tbsp)
Chopped tomatoes (1 x 400g tin)
Sugar (1 tsp)
Eggs (5-6)
Spring onions (4, finely chopped to serve)
Avocado (2, sliced thinly, optional)
Feta cheese (100g, crumled, optional)
Bread to serve

Shakhouka is great for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or even dinner, and our spice kit makes for a deep and rich flavour for your sauce

Our kit serves 4

  1. Heat the vegetable oil and your Teaspoon Club spice packet in a wide cast-iron pan on a medium heat for 30 seconds
  2. Add the garlic, chilli, onion and your Teaspoon Club spice packet. Fry until the onion is softened (five minutes or so)
  3. Add both the peppers and continue to stir for a further 5 minutes, so the mixture is softened and the spices are fragrant
  4. Add the tomato puree and sugar and pour in the choppedtomatoes. Stir well and simmer for 5-10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavours to develop
  5. Make a little well in the chopped tomatoes (you could use the bottom of a ladle) and crack an egg directly into the well it makes. If you prefer, you can crack the egg into a cup first and be ready to pour it into the well as soon as it is created
  6. Repeat this process until all the eggs are accommodated neatly in your pan
  7. Cover and leave to poach for 6-8 minutes, or longer depending on how runny you like your yolks
  8. Remove from the heat and sprinkle over the chopped spring onions
  9. Serve hot with bread, and the optional avocado and feta cheese
